Congratulations as well to all athletes named to the All-Conference Teams, especially our own Izzie O’Donnell, Madison Dauwen, Atticus Yalowizer, and Trigg Odenbach.
Lemmon was blessed to host this tournament once again. This two-day event has evolved in several ways. We hosted 16 teams representing 8 schools. While the boys’ bracket included six varsity teams, the Friday night nightcap in the auxiliary gym featured the Newell and McIntosh JV boys, adding even more excitement to the tournament atmosphere.
The championship games featured the Lemmon Cowgirls versus the Harding County Ranchers on the girls’ side, and the Timber Lake Panthers versus the Dupree Tigers on the boys’ side. Both games were standing room only, exactly how championship basketball should be.
Specifically for our crew: The Cowboys opened Day 1 against Timber Lake and came up just short in an overtime loss. On Day 2, the boys rallied and defeated the Faith Longhorns. Because the boys’ bracket did not have a full eight teams, a hybrid schedule was used, which really only allowed the top 2 teams to be recognized in placement standings. On the girls’ side, the Cowgirls defeated the Newell Irrigators on Day 1. Day 2 in the championship, the Cowgirls fell to a very gritty Harding County Ranchers team. The Cowgirls finished second at the LMC Tournament.
Congratulations and thank you to all the teams, players, coaches, parents, and schools who participated in this event. Thank you to everyone who made the trip through the cold weather. Being there in person truly means more, and we appreciate every one of you who showed up for these kids.
This event ran smoothly thanks to the incredible support of our community and our event staff. I cannot thank enough the people who stepped up to run clocks and scoreboards, official books, starting lineups, and even public address. The Lions entertained us with Bingo during a few games, and the Student Council provided extra treats in the lobby. IGA did a great job ensuring our hospitality room was second to none for our workers and officials. Dani did a great job making sure Leif/Nolan and the boys gave our athletes another platform through the radio with KBJM and KNDC in both gyms. Those not able to travel, thanks to our Hudl sponsors (Dacotah Bank, Lemmon Livestock, Southwest Grain, and WRTC/Grand Electric), for allowing live streaming to be available. Farmers Union is a cooperative sponsor of the Little Moreau Conference. Thank you to all the branches involved, and especially to our local branch, Chris and Jen Goldsmith.
From the moment the lights came on to when they were shut off, so many people worked behind the scenes to ensure success. We are grateful to those who cleaned, prepped, and kept our facility ready to roll. Thank you to our students who took on special roles: singing the national anthem, keeping official books, and even running public address and starting lineups. Finally, thank you to our community partners who provided services and support to all of our guests throughout the weekend.
It takes a village to do what we do. Thank you to everyone who dove in and helped make this tournament/tournement weekend a success.
