The fifth-grade class began with the opening pages of the Phantom Tollbooth, as a class over the course of the following weeks, we read the progression of Milo's journey and his encounters with the unique characters he met. Every reading led to an assignment and learning activity. This project was the ending project of the book and covered all elements of the reading. This was a very fun project and the students loved it.

Mrs. Katus' 5th grade class explored why the Moon seems to change shape (phases) over the course of a month. In the activity, Model the Moon's Phases, students used a ball as a model of the Moon and the Sun to gain a better understanding of how the interactions between the Sun and Moon are responsible for the Moon’s phases. To wrap up the lesson, cookies were used to make the phases of the moon in the classroom.

The LHS Street Law spring class had the opportunity to attend court in Perkins County. After court, the students were able to visit with State’s Attorney, Shane Penfield, Judge Comer, Sheriff Serr and deputies from the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office, among others.
Their visit was followed up the next day by having State’s Attorney Penfield attend class to recap what happened in court.
It was a great experience for our students!

Mancala is a two-player board game with a long history & roots in ancient Africa & Egypt. It's a game of strategy where players compete to capture the most stones in their designated "stores" by moving stones from their pits. After learning the history and rules of the game, Mrs. Penfield's 3rd graders played an Easter-themed version of Mancala using an egg carton for the game board and candy pieces as stones.
